To ensure that we always cater to our patient’s needs, we offer two types of accelerated orthodontic treatment at our practice, which are AcceleDent Aura and PROPEL Orthodontics. To learn more about our PROPEL accelerated orthodontic care, check out the information below.

What Is PROPEL Orthodontics?

PROPEL Orthodontics uses a special handheld device that is designed to stimulate the bone surrounding your teeth, which will help your teeth move faster during orthodontic treatment. Treatment with PROPEL is administered in a single session, where Dr. Hamilton, Wilson, or Hendrickson will use the device to target specific, difficult-to-move teeth, triggering a natural response from your body that will accelerate tooth movement throughout the course of your treatment. With PROPEL Orthodontics, you can shorter the time that you need to wear your braces or Invisalign by up to 50%.

How Does The PROPEL Device Work?

Your typical time frame for orthodontic treatment with braces or Invisalign is between 12 or 18 months, because the rate at which your teeth can move and for your jawbone to adjust is naturally slow, especially for adults who have a fully developed jaw. The key to PROPEL lies in triggering a natural bodily response to send more resources to bone in the area around your teeth, simulating a state of growth that will help the teeth move faster. In order to activate that response, the PROPEL device is designed to create micro-osteoperforations (MOPs) in the gums and bone surrounding your teeth. MOPs are basically small holes, which are perfectly harmless to your gums, bone, and teeth, but will trigger that immune response from the body. As your body heals those MOPs, your teeth will start to move faster thanks to the extra resources that your smile is getting, combined with the small amounts of pressure from the braces or Invisalign. Before you know it, you’ll be getting those braces off or taking off that very last set of aligners to enjoy your brand-new smile!

Is PROPEL A Good Fit For Me?

While PROPEL can be used in a wide range of cases to accelerate orthodontic treatment including those with Lawrence braces, clear ceramic braces, and Invisalign, PROPEL is not right for everyone. Out of all our patients at both our Topeka and Lawrence offices, about 80% of our patients have been ideal candidates for PROPEL treatment.
